The Town of Tyrone is pleased to announce that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved a $2.41 million Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) award to upgrade the Lake Pendleton Dam to meet Georgia DNR Safe Dams Program Category 1 Standards.
This critical infrastructure improvement project will enhance the safety and resilience of the dam, reducing the risk of flooding and ensuring long-term protection for our community.
The funding breakdown for the project is as follows:
✅ Federal Share: $1,807,500
✅ Local Share: $602,500
✅ Subrecipient Management Costs: $21,000
"We are grateful for this investment in the Town's infrastructure," said Brandon Perkins, Town Manager. "This grant allows us to take proactive steps to reduce potential risks and ensure that Lake Pendleton Dam meets the highest safety standards."
The grant is awarded on behalf of Governor Brian P. Kemp and will be administered in coordination with FEMA and state emergency management officials.

The USPS has provided the Town with virtually no direct updates on the status of the post office since a fire forced the closure of their Tyrone location. The sporadic updates that we have received were provided through the offices of Congressman Drew Ferguson and his successor Brian Jack. Mr. Jack's office received an update from the USPS and shared it with Mayor Dial yesterday afternoon. It states that the "build-back is estimated to be completed by the end of March 2025", but did not include any mention of an opening date.
The Town thanks Congressman Jack for his assistance in this matter. We will provide additional updates as they become available.

Please note that Tyrone Town Hall, Library, and Recreation Center will be closed Wednesday January 22nd due to winter weather conditions. For questions, please contact us at info@tyronega.gov
Thank you

Please note that CSX has notified the Town administration that they will have crews doing work on several its crossings spanning South Fulton County and Fayette County - to include a few in Tyrone - beginning February 3, 2025. The following crossings within the Town limits are scheduled for closure for 2 to 4 days each once the work begins (some closures may be simultaneous):
- Senoia Road at Dogwood Trail
- Valleywood Road
- Handley Road
- Swanson Road
We, unfortunately, have not been provided with the specific dates that Tyrone will be affected but we will provide additional details if or when they are provided to us.

Please note that on December 19th, the Peachtree City Council voted to temporarily open Crabapple Lane to golf cart and multi-use traffic only, starting January 3rd, 2025, until August of 2025 to collect data. A Peachtree City golf cart tag will still be required to operate a golf cart within their city limits.

The following was included in our December 2024 Email Update to citizens.
We continue to get questions from citizens wanting to know when the Tyrone post office will re-open. Unfortunately, not much has changed since our last official update, but here's what we know at this time:
- The interior remodel has been substantially complete for months.
- The USPS has had the keys to the building and the ability to re-open at any time since March. This is 100% in their hands.
- A new postmaster has been appointed for a few months now, but even she did not have a set date for the location to open when she last communicated with us.
- The last official communication we received from the USPS was in July and we shared that with you. Here it is again: "After speaking with facilities officials. . . I am confirming that the USPS has no current plans to close the Tyrone Post Office. . .Our current plan is to inspect the facility at the end of the month to verify that all repairs have been completed to our specifications. Pending the outcome of the inspection, the Postal Service must ensure the facility is appropriately equipped for retail service and occupancy. This work is anticipated to last through the end of August and potentially the end of September. At that time, we expect to have better information on a timeframe for the facility to resume operations."
The USPS has not communicated with the Town since.
- The Town has exhausted every means at our disposal to communicate your frustration and attempt to expedite the location's re-opening. This includes multiple communications with Federal elected officials.
In short, we hear and share your frustration but we cannot provide you with a timeline for the USPS to get our post office back online. We will update the public again as soon as we have more information for you.
If you would like more information, please feel free to reach out directly to those who have control over this matter:

Traffic Control with partial lane closures will take place along Senoia Road between the Shell Station and Dollar General on Saturday, 10/26 between 8:00am and 12:00pm. Please contact the Town for any questions at info@tyronega.gov | (770) 487-4038

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 9, 2024
Town of Tyrone Proposes Increase in Property Taxes
The Mayor and Town Council of the Town of Tyrone, Georgia have announced today their intention to increase the collection of property taxes in 2024. This increase as compared to prior-year revenues is due to the need for a millage rate above the state-defined roll-back millage rate as calculated after the tax digest is prepared by the Fayette County Tax Assessors Office.
During budget preparation, the Town of Tyrone committed to maintaining its Maintenance & Operations (M&O) millage at a rate of 2.889 mills. As was the case last year, the assessed value of the new construction and existing real and personal properties within the town limits have increased, and a roll-back millage was calculated at 2.669 mills.
Georgia Law requires that a government rollback their millage rate to a number of mills that will produce the same number of dollars in property tax revenue from the prior year. The Town’s millage has been at this rate for seventeen years, despite vast fluctuations in economic factors. The proposed increase in property tax revenue, year over year, amounts to $145,761 or 7.81%. The total number of dollars anticipated to be collected in property tax for 2024 is $2,012,217.
Before the Town Council can set a final millage rate at a council meeting on October 24, 2024 at 6:30 pm, the Department of Revenue requires that three public hearings be held to allow for the citizens to express their opinion on the potential increase. All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings, which will be held at the Tyrone Municipal Complex, 950 Senoia Road, on the following dates and times.
Public Hearings for Town of Tyrone Property Tax Increase:
Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 9:00 AM
Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 7:00 PM
Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 6:00 PM
